Sonia, the face behind Mehndi Bar, first started her journey as a henna artist 15 years ago as a hobby, often decorating the hands and feet of family and friends and occasionally a wedding or two. It wasn't until 2017 when she decided it was time to turn her love for henna into a business.
What is Mehndi?
Mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word mendhikā and is a form of body art from ancient India, in which decorative designs are created on a person's body, using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant, Lawsonia Inermis. The end result is a beautiful rich dark stain on your skin lasting for at least 1 to 2 weeks - a great option for those who do not want to commit to a real tattoo!
Ancient in origin, Mehndi is still a popular form of body art among the women of the Indian Subcontinent, Africa and the Middle East.
